A Star Tuitions

Blog

Congratulations

Greetings for A-Star Tuitions!

Hope everyone had a great summer so far and enjoyed some family holidays during the school break.

Last week has been a very exciting week for us at A-Star Tuitions as the GCSE results came out on the 25th August 2022. We were overwhelmed to get phone calls, messages and emails from parents pouring in and narrating the success stories of their children, who we had the privilege and pleasure to nurture through their secondary school journey.

Prior to Results day, many students and parents were quite anxious as Ofsted published that this year’s grade boundaries would be higher than 2021 when grades were awarded through the teacher awarded grades from respective schools (which were higher than 2019 when students last sat for GCSE). In spite of that, we are really proud to share that our students achieved their target grades which is a really proud moment for the students as well as the parents.

We always tell our students… ‘There’s nothing to be worried about the results, as they are just a reflection of the amount of hard work you have put it in. However, even if the results are not as per your expectation, it is not the end of the world and there are numerous examples of inspirational and successful people in this world who did not get disappointed with their results and stop, but they used it to fuel their ambition achieve greater success in life’. We also tell our students’ parents, ‘Please celebrate the success of your children all the way’.

With that great satisfaction and happiness for another year of exemplary GCSE results that our students have delivered, it is also the time to look ahead and support and work hard with students appearing for GCSE 2023.

Best wishes from the team at A-Star Tuitions to all our students and every student endeavouring to achieve their dream in the future.

GCSE Exam changes – 2022

Due to the scale of disruption due to Covid, and the possible impact on education across pupils, the Government have put ‘fairness at the heart’ for planning for exams in 2022. Exam boards are also working closely with each other to ensure consistency.

Grades will be decided via external exams and marking, rather than teacher assessments. However, the grade boundaries will be more lenient and will be set at a ‘mid-point’ between 2019 pre-pandemic grade boundaries and those used in teacher assessments in 2021. More generous grade boundaries are being designed to account for lost learning and also ‘push forward’ students who would otherwise ‘just miss’ out on a higher grade.

For Maths and Science exams, formulae sheets and equations will be provided.

AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CCEA exam changes links are provided below for your reference.

For AQA: scroll mid-way down on the page and select GCSE for Qualification Level and select Subject from the drop down.

For Edexcel: can be downloaded ‘GCSE – Advance Information’ mid-way down the page.

For OCR: select Qualification level and Qualification from drop downs.

For CCEA: still under discussion where pupils, teachers, parents may decide to drop an exam unit, however a minimum content still needs to be covered.

We will cover the above changes in our lessons with our students in our virtual online lessons. If you/your child needs support, send us a query via the website Contact form.
